For many of us, it’s hard to beat the excitement of your baby’s first holiday. They may not understand what all the celebration is about, but we’re pretty sure they know something special is going on – lights, sounds, smells, friends and family! At g we’re big fans of supporting small businesses and handmade makers. With that in mind, we’ve curated a list of our favorite gifts for your (or your favorite) little one.

Being a new parent can feel especially isolating. Babies are beautiful and wonderful and all, but they’re not big talkers, at least not early on. Thanks to social media, new parents can now connect with one another virtually to help with the isolation. But being social on social media and finding your tribe are not the same. The former is a placebo; the latter is the real medicine.
In 2006 one Indiana gMum named Brighid set out to find her tribe. She started a Yahoo chat group for fans and customers of gDiapers. So it came as no surprise that we began to see our g take on new applications at the hands of gMums. At first, though we were ecstatic to see passion fused with creativity in the name of g, it was a bit of a head-scratcher. How does a company retain its branding and also support the fans who have infused the brand with their own whimsy and talent? For a tiny company trying to leave its mark, this was a problem of the prettiest kind. We looked for examples from other brands but couldn’t find any who faced a similar puzzler so we worked together with our gMums to create an upcycling program, a way to officially authorize and support gMums’ creative modifications to the product.

Imagine this. You have a new company. Cool product, but limited budget, naturally. You swallow hard and fork over the money to pay for a booth at a tradeshow in San Francisco. Three employees fly down to tend the booth. Then two fall ill. The one still standing has only one tradeshow under her belt and can’t work a booth for 3 days on her own. You send out a plea to your small customer list, “Help!”
And you get a reply:
“Well … I’m in Pasadena, but I’m free this weekend, as long as I can bring my baby. But I’d love to help.”
