g is for Global: The story behind Maasai g's
Heads up! You may be receiving a special gift from us in your next order. Until we run out, we will be sending in each order a handmade “g”, which are made by Maasai mums in Tanzania for you. These little gifts are reminders that we are all part of a global village where we share the spirit of g.
Handmade g’s will be little surprises in orders of gDiapers.
The spirit of g means many things. It means to be genuine in everything we do. It means to be generous with our time, attention, and talents. And it means to think globally, as in, we all have universal dreams and concerns, and together, we can make a difference.

In 2014, gDiapers co-founder Kim Graham-Nye traveled to Tanzania for work with our partner, Every Mother Counts. “They had all sorts of planned meetings and activities, including meeting with the Maasai Women Development Organisation (MWEDO). I wanted to connect even more with other business women and made arrangements to meet some of the local groups once the EMC team left. I quickly fell in love with the Esilalei Naisho Women Group.

“Within a short few days, I gained genuine friendships and learned that we, as mums around the world, stress about juggling babies, work, finances, and family. I also fell in love with their craftsmanship—their care, their touch.”

Kim bought several hand-beaded ornaments as holiday gifts for the gTeam and began work on creating a special gift for you, the gCommunity.
Peek-a-boo! There are lots of things you can do with your g!
“Creating these g’s was no small feat! These women live in a village that doesn’t have cameras or computers. We had a liaison to translate and a good friend to drive 3-4 hours just to take pictures of prototypes and drive back to email them to us.”

After many months of development and logistics, and hundreds of g’s later, the g’s arrived at gDiapers headquarters in Portland, OR. Each one is hand-wrapped with love, and we are excited to share the spirit of g, and everything it means, with you!
The spirit of g is thriving in Tanzania.
These Maasai women are incredibly proud to share a connection with the gCommunity, and we want you to have a chance to express your gratitude with them. If you receive a g, please share a picture of you with it on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, tagging #gVillage, and we will send them a collage of all the lives they’ve touched as a thank you.
And thank YOU for being a part of our village.
