gStories: Transitioning from conventional disposables to gDiapers
Switching from conventional disposable diapers to hybrid diapers can be a challenge—habits are hard to change, right? But switching can also mean discovering conveniences you never knew existed. We talked with gMum Danielle about her experience with making the change:
Tell us about moving from conventional disposables to gDiapers.
When we were expecting our first baby, Emilia, we had looked into cloth diapering a bit. Then we received so many Huggies at my baby shower that we decided to just go with disposables. But, as everyone knows, our supply of Huggies dwindled a lot faster than we had hoped, and we soon realized that in the long run gDiapers would be much more worth our money.
We switched over when Emilia was six months old and used Cloth Inserts during the day and the Disposable Inserts for overnight. We fell in love in the first three days. No more blow outs, no more smelly diaper pail, and above all, they were so cute!! A little over a year later we welcomed our second baby, our son Blake. He was 10lbs, 10oz and 24" at birth and has grown at an insanely fast rate ever since. I have been so impressed how well gDiapers worked for both our thin, petite daughter and our tall, husky son.

This year, we welcomed our third gBaby, our sweet daughter Ainsley. gDiapers have been such an enormous money saver for our family. We have used the same Cloth Inserts for all three kids, and they have held up extremely well and have gotten more and more absorbent with use. We never have blowouts anymore and that has saved us from so many stained outfits.

What were some of the surprising benefits of switching to hybrid diapering?
The Disposable Inserts are very soft and absorbent. We use them for overnight and travel because they last all night with no leaks and are so easy to dispose of on-the-go. They flush well and make cloth diapering so much easier.
We also love that the Cloth Inserts are much less bulky than other brands. We have 30 Cloth Inserts that all three of our children have used, and they have only gotten more absorbent over time. We currently have a 2 year old in size large and a 6 month old in mediums and the same Cloth Inserts were also used by Emilia when we first switched to gDiapers. And they are still in great shape!
What’s the best thing you like about gDiapers?
Since switching to gDiapers, we have had amazing results with the customer service when needed and more cute diaper bum pictures than we can count. I quickly discovered that gDiapers is much more than a brand. They are an entire community of amazing, caring families.
Though there are many reasons I love being a gMum (including the adorable gPants and the amazing company) my top reason is the one-of-a-kind gCommunity! I have never come across a more kind and supportive group of parents.
I have gained some lifelong gMum friends all over the country and even other parts of the globe. Our journey with gDiapers has filled my first few years of motherhood with even more amazing memories, and I can actually say I will be sad the day all of my children are potty trained. gMums may be the only ones who actually miss their diapering days.

What advice do you have for new parents?
Surround yourself with a supportive community. Whether you find that through gDiapers or another outlet, it is very important. We, as parents, constantly feel judged and critiqued, so follow your instincts and do what feels right and works best for your family!
Thank you, Danielle, for sharing your diapering adventures with us! We love how every family finds ways to make gDiapers work the best for your individual lifestyle, whether you’re full-time cloth diapering or hybrid diapering with Disposable Inserts.
