gStories: Winning over grandparents
It can be tricky to convince people that hybrid diapering is really a smart choice, especially grandparents who remember when cloth diapers involved sharp pins and big, bulky baby bums. Here’s how one gMum was able to convince her whole family that gDiapers is the way to go:We love how you first came across gDiapers. Can you tell us who introduced you to them?
My mom and dad were convinced that cloth diapers were a bad idea after trying them on my older brother, Chris, 30 years ago. He would get terrible diaper rash and get pricked with pins and scream. By the time I came along, it was all disposables, all the time.
I tried to convince my folks that cloth diapers had come a long way and put a lot of cloth diapers (all sorts of brands) on our baby registry. At our baby shower, my brother was the only person brave enough to pick out any diapers, which were gDiapers. Much to my surprise, he had actually really investigated the different options (not bad for a guy without kids!). He was really excited to share with everyone exactly how hybrid diapers work and why it was the best option out there.
These are the gPants he and his now-wife Erin brought to the shower. It was so nice of them to keep them gender neutral!
The first of many gPants to come.
What did the grandparents think of hybrid diapering?
Both my mom and mother-in-law love our gDiapers now too. We now have a big stash of gPants that the grandmas have bought—proof they really are fans. Notice they didn't do as well with keeping things neutral though. Ha!
Check out the gPants stash—all from the convinced grandparents!
What in particular helped change the grandparents’ minds on hybrid diapering?
My daughter, Johannah, rarely ever has a diaper rash, and when she does, we easily switch to a Disposable Insert with some Desitin for a bit and — voila! Then right back to gCloths.
Also, the pouch holds everything in the gPants so well. I cringe at the thought of how some of her poopy diapers could have gotten all over her clothes, but with g's they stay contained.
When we visit my parents, they have a stash of Disposable Inserts, so we just bring gPants. I'm also really excited that gPants alone work as swim diapers for our beach trip this year.
Their whole stash has really grown since those first gPants.
What do you love most about gDiapers?
I love that our next kiddo will be nearly free to diaper other than some Disposable Inserts here or there. gDiapers hold up so well. My daughter just turned one, and I’m proud to say that we still love them. From the lack of diaper rash and blowouts, to the ease of traveling, and just the overall cost and quality makes me talk about gDiapers far more than is probably normal. Ha!
gDiapers really are “foundational” for Carolyn and Johannah’s family.
We are so happy to hear that you and the grandparents love the changes in diapering over the years, Carolyn! And we can’t wait to see gBaby #2 in November.
